Windsor Castle Park

Smithfield might be off the beaten path for most of us in Hampton Roads, but it is worth the visit for the spectacular Windsor Castle Park.

Close to the heart of historical Smithfield and off the Pagan River, Windsor Castle Park offers quite the adventure for all ages.

There are several paths you can take, each of varying distance.  The trail has a few “hills”, which makes for a good work out if you’re pushing a stroller!

The trail is easy enough for little legs, my two year old enjoys running and finding sticks.  It is also very stroller friendly and you can easily jog if that’s what you prefer.

Lookouts along the trail with benches offer a place to rest and take in the view, or nurse a baby if necessary.

The trail is pet friendly and you can expect to see several dogs out.

There is also a bike path for our biking enthusiasts!

But the real fun comes after you have finished your hike.

Windsor Castle Park has two separate playgrounds, one for toddlers and one for kids.  There is a slide, and rock climbing wall, sand pit and logs for littles to climb on.  My son had a blast at the playground and it wore him out enough to guarantee a nap in the car!

If you bring your furry family member, there is a lovely dog park.  My toddler enjoyed watching the dogs play.

Windsor Castle Park also offers picnic tables so you can bring your lunch and spend the day.

While Smithfield is a bit of a drive, I promise that Windsor Castle Park is one place you don’t want to miss!
