For Mom Monday, we decided to interview our very own Jessica of Hampton Roads Moms! So grab a glass of wine (or La Croix, Jessica’s favorite!) and Meet Jessica!
What is Hampton Roads Moms?
Hampton Roads Moms is a local Mom blog by Hampton Roads Moms for Hampton Roads Moms. Here at Hampton Roads Moms, we are passionate about motherhood, making memories with our kids and the Hampton Roads community.
Compromising over seven cities and an amazing Military community, Hampton Roads Moms promotes building a community and encouraging other local moms to get out and explore all the amazing museums, festivals, parks and attractions Hampton Roads has to offer.
Hampton Roads Moms is the #1 resource for things to do with your family, events, recipes, stories of motherhood, play dates and much more.
Jessica is a mom to a spitfire of a two year old, Cole, and a smart, beautiful little girl, Catherine. Jessica has been married to her amazing husband, Georgia Dude, for six years. Jessica is a mom and Military Wife who fully embraces the term “Semper Gumby” (always flexible) and lives by the phrase “It is what it is.”
Jessica and Georgia Dude are raising their family in Suffolk, where they love going to the YMCA and enjoying the quiet countryside. She is a lover of yoga, wine, taking on do it yourself projects and a good book.
Jessica also loves to volunteer with her husband’s command and working with military spouses to navigate this crazy life!
Hampton Roads Moms is whatever YOU want it to be! A place to find out what’s going on in your area this weekend, how to organize your life, talk about how demanding (yet oh so rewarding) it is to be a mom, to build relationships and let your own voice be heard.
2. How did Hampton Roads Moms get started?
Moving to a new area is hard, which is something I realized when my husband and I arrived here with orders in hand and no idea where to start. It wasn’t until I became a stay at home Mom that I realized that I really didn’t know what to do with my family to fill those long hours before bedtime. Sure, there was plenty to do in Hampton Roads, but I often wasn’t aware of these fun events until after they had passed, or it was too late to get our act together and make it out. But Ashley and I didn’t want this blog to just a cut and dry list of events, we wanted to add some heart and soul to it as well. So Hampton Roads Moms was born!
3. What is your favorite thing about starting Hampton Roads Moms?
Hearing from our moms! I love reading your own stories of motherhood and being able to laugh about, cry and celebrate this crazy ride with you.
4. What are you looking forward to in the future of Hampton Roads Moms?
Growing Hampton Roads Moms! More contributors means more stories, and more moms engaged. I love our play dates, attending vendor events and helping local moms grow their business.
5. What has been the hardest thing about starting Hampton Roads Moms?
Trying to find time to do it all. With my husband’s schedule, I’m often solo parenting, so I need to make sure I’m taking giving the kid’s the attention they need, while still maintaining our home and sometimes feeding my mini monsters! Add trying to run a blog on top of it, and I sometimes feel stretched a little thin. But it’s so much fun and I really enjoy what I’m doing!
6. Any advice for Mom’s wanting to start a blog or business?
Go for it! It was scary for me to walk away from my 9-5 and take the plunge into being a stay at home mom and blogger, but it’s been so worth it. I love having this time to spend with my kids, and I love having people who want to share this journey with me. Make sure you have your mom tribe to support and guide you, because taking on a new venture is not easy if you’re going at it alone.
** If you want to try your hand at blogging, we’d love for you to become a contributor for Hampton Roads Moms!
1. How do you keep up with a blog and family?
It’s not easy. Time management and prioritizing play a big part. Going to the Y everyday, spending time with my kids and husband and providing home cooked dinners are so important to me, so that comes first. I also am the best version of myself when my home is clean, so I often blog late at night after everyone is asleep and the house has been cleaned. You just need to be realistic with yourself and what the needs are of you and your family. You don’t want to burn out early on!
2. As a Mom, who or what inspires you?
My children. Everything my husband and I do is for them and to better their lives. And it’s so important to me that both my kids, but especially my daughter, know that it is possible for women to do it all. I don’t have to miss out on my career goals or being the mom I want to be.
3. What’s in your diaper bag?
Ugh, so much stuff! Toys, food, diapers, my wallet, butt paste, sippy cup, A Children’s Guide to Mass (#growingupcatholic) and some bracelets.
4. Favorite kid snack you secretly enjoy?
Meh, I don’t really like kid’s snacks. But my son loves to snack on my Wheat Thins and Snap Pea Crisps.
