With the kids out of school, Hampton Roads Moms is happy to give you five FREE things to do in Virginia Beach this summer with your kids!
I love Summer in Virginia Beach because the town just comes alive! The boardwalk is bustling, the parks are full of events and there are tons of things to do to get the family outside.
The benefits of being a three month tourist town is that there are tons of awesome things to do in the city of Virginia Beach that won’t break the bank.
Below are five FREE things to do in Virginia Beach this summer with your kids.
1. Go to the Beach
Now, this may be the most obvious one since beach is in the name, but taking your kids to one of the many beaches in there area is bound to be a fun day for the whole family.
2. Explore nature and go for a Hike!
I have some great memories as a kid of the times my parents took us out to the Appalachian Mountains and let us hike and explore!
Since Virginia Beach is at or below sea level, hiking through the mountains is just not going to happen. But there are tons of awesome trails in the area that have great views and allow your family to get lost in nature.
One of my family’s favorite is Pleasure House Point and Stumpy Lake, but there are tons of great parks in the area with trails that are free to use. The city of Virginia Beach offers over 100 miles of trails either on roads or within pars.
Bonus: If you don’t mind paying a couple bucks, check out First Landing State Park for some longer trails and amazing views.
3. Head out to Beach Street USA
From mid-June to Labor day every year on Atlantic Ave. turns into “Beach Street USA” 8 blocks of musicians and novelty acts that will keep the whole family entertained.
No lie, one day we went out there and saw an acrobatics show in the middle of the road, it was awesome! I personally have seen everything from musicians, circus acts, magicians and characters out preforming.
Its fun for the whole family and you can catch some amazing acts there!
4. Go Back in Time
Once a month, the Francis Land House in Virginia Beach offers Free. Fun. Saturday. where guest can come a have guided tours of the house, play games and a featured special activity.
The home, which is listed as a Virginia Historic Landmark is home to one of the founding members of Princess Anne County. At one time, the house was a working plantation but now serves as a historic site for the city.
From July 4th to Labor Day, Virginia Beach has fireworks at 10:00 p.m. on Sundays and Wednesdays and some specified festivals (see link for more details).
The fireworks are launched from 22nd street and can be seen most places along the boardwalk and the North End.
I personally believe that Fireworks are a great way to wrap-up a beautiful summer day with family or for a spontaneous night out.
