What made you want to start a Mommy Concierge Service?

A week after the birth of our third child, my husband had to return to his full time job. I found it quite difficult to handle my day-to-day tasks as a stay-at-home wife while recuperating from childbirth. I also had the challenge of acclimating myself and the rest of the household to the schedule of the new baby. Being originally from Pennsylvania, my husband and I found it to be very strenuous to navigate our expanding family without the help of relatives here in Virginia. Depression, specifically the sense of being overwhelmed and alone, were feelings that I had to manage. This is when and how Moms Need Help Too was born.

How long have you been in business?

I have always enjoyed helping and assisting moms and their families, but I decided to make it “official” by obtaining my business license and insurance. Moms Need Help Too was created October 11, 2014.

Have you always been interested in assisting families or did happen by chance?

It was definitely NOT by chance. I’ve always considered myself a supportive person, in general. My passion lies within what we do for our families whether it be military, civilian, extended families, or single guardians. We are determined to leave each family with a sense of ease and reassurance that they are not alone during the most treasured time in a parent’s life.

What benefits can a new or established mom receive from a Mommy Concierge service?

Our services redefine the ‘post-birth experience’ by personalizing care for both baby and mother, in the comfort of their own home. We are more than just a babysitting service, we are a complete full-service “one-stop-shop” to assist mothers in being able to fully bond with her newborn without having to experience the stressors that come with new-motherhood.

We create custom support plans with three levels of assistance; Sitter, Nanny, and Lifestyle Manager. Alongside infant care, we offer a wide variety of catered options such as light housekeeping, pick up and drop off of school aged children, and schedule management.

We are fully dedicated to assisting mom from the moment she exits the hospital with her new bundle of joy, to when her toddler reaches 4 years of age.

Are there any additional services you offer outside of child care?

Yes, we have since added hotel/ resort sitters for our on the go parents as well as event planning/ coordinating.

At what point can mom start services?

We offer a range of support from pre-natal to post-natal. We understand that even before the baby comes, there is still work to be done for mom or the mom to be.

What is the most unique customer package you have done thus far?

I assisted a military family that were preparing to PCS (permanent change of station) to Korea. Both parents were Officers in the Army and had to take courses in upper Virginia to prepare them for their next duty station. Since the strain of their school schedule kept them away from their children during the week, they needed a live-in nanny. I was able to customize a support plan and assist them with child care in their absence for the summer.

How did you maintain a work-life balance during that time?

It was a little challenging however I was able to spend time with my family on the weekends. In the creation of my business, I have been able to structure my household to function with or without me and I also have the support of my husband. So if the client needs me I will be able to commit to the client wholeheartedly.

What is the best part of what you do?

The best part of what I do is knowing that I’ve helped a family reach a level of organization and general wellness that will enable them to focus less on all the daily hubbub, and instead spend more time focusing on loving and spending time with each other.

On Being a Mom:
As a mom, who or what inspires you?

So many things inspire me but few a things that immediately come to mind are my journey and my children.

Looking back to my humble beginnings and comparing it to where I am now and how far I have come I am extremely grateful; I have been through many trials and tribulations on the road to adulthood. Also in the beginning of my journey as a mompreneur, I had so many naysayers versus a supportive collective. I couldn’t understand (at that time) why they couldn’t see or understand my vision for Moms Need Help Too. I eventually came to understand that my vision was given to me, not anyone else. As they say ‘Beauty is in the eye of the beholder’. At that time, I was one of the few that recognized the value in my plan. The challenges I have overcome and continue to face only makes me a stronger individual. As parents, we are our children’s first teachers. I want to continue to example for them and show them entrepreneurship is achievable and defining your own reality is achievable.

Favorite kids snack you secretly enjoy?

Wow, this one is a hard one LOL… I would have to say Gushers Fruit Snack.

What is your favorite show to binge watch?

The Profit with Marcus Lemonis! I’m always eager to learn different aspects of business.

What do you like to do to relax?

I absolutely LOVE spa pedicures!! That hour and a half means everything! Who doesn’t like to be catered to? LOL

What advice do you have for expectant mothers?

It’s okay not to know exactly what to do. It’s okay to ask for help. We as mothers have this stigma that is placed in our spirits. We must rock an “S” on our chests and make things happen, to “hold down the fort”. It will not make you any less of a woman or mother to receive outside assistance. Assistance comes in many forms- physical, emotional & spiritual. With some extra help, you can overcome some (if not all) of the stressors that come with motherhood.

A big thank you to Nikole for answering our questions!
