United Through Reading

With Hampton Roads’ large and proud Military heritage, we wanted to take a moment to highlight a wonderful charity that helps to bring Families together throughout deployments — United Through Reading.

Hampton Roads Moms Co-Founder, Jessica, first shared with y’all the impact United through Reading had on her family when she share her “Letter to Her Military Child“.

By being able to share stories, her husband was able to connect with their toddler while worlds apart due to deployment.

Most recently, Jessica was able to share the benefits of United Through Reading and why other families throughout Deployment should take advantage of this wonderful program.

Jessica said:

The first month was hard.  My son asked for his Daddy every day and my heart broke a little more every time I had to remind him just how far we had to go before we saw Daddy again.

Then in late June, a package arrived addressed to our son in my husband’s handwriting.  “Looks like someone got a package from Daddy!”  My toddler started jumping up and down and yelling “Daddy!” over and over.

I pulled out the UTR video and book.  Our son loves books, and reading with Daddy has always been one of his favorite things to do.

And if you find it in your heart, consider making a donation to United Through Reading in honor of Hampton Roads Moms.
